20+ Free Slogans For The Government’s Campaign To Prevent Sexual Assault

If you remember the 70s, 80s and 90s, then you may recall the government’s various programs and commercials to prevent drug use (This Is Your Brain On Drugs), reduce crime (Take A Bite Out Of Crime), reduce littering (Woodsy Owl), prevent forest fires (Smokey The Bear), curb teen smoking (Cigarette Mash), even eat more cheese (Cheese, glorious cheese), drink milk (Milk It Does A Body Good) and many more. These worked well because so many people watch TV. They were advertised using catchy jingles and slogans that I still recall, some 30+ years later.

But I don’t recall ever seeing a commercial for NOT RAPING PEOPLE. Maybe it’s because it was going to be a thing, but they couldn’t agree on a catchy slogan to help discourage assault and rape. (After school specials didn’t help very much.)

The closest program our nation has to an anti-rape and sexual assault campaign is the RPE program, or Rape Prevention Education. According to the CDC’s website, “The Violence Against Women Act, passed by Congress in 1994, established the Rape Prevention and Education (RPE) program at CDC. The RPE program seeks to develop and strengthen sexual violence prevention efforts at the local, state, and national level.”

But I’ve never heard of it before. Ever. Have you? I graduated high school in 1994 but I’ve been working in schools for the past 10 years with music education and haven’t heard anything about it. And many of my music and jokes discuss sexual…
