I Spent Most Of Last Summer Perfecting Camping, Hiking And Crystal Digging…With A Baby
And I can’t wait to pick up where we left off
Camping season on the East Coast is so close I can taste it. Anyone else?
Before my son was born, my husband and my favorite thing to do was to dig for crystals in various cliffs and mountainsides, camp out (or more accurately, “glamp” out) and hike down abandoned logging roads and old trails that led to deserted towns or scenic waterfalls. When I became pregsies, I assumed, “We will just take the baby with us!”
Little did I know, that was a stupid plan and I can be a real ignoramus at times.
When the baby was first born, there were literal months on end where my son and I did mostly nothing, while my husband went off to work. We sat at my apartment trying to figure out our new joint schedule that involved a lot of sleeping, nursing and reading. It wasn’t until he was about 5 months old that I really started venturing out with him to do things.
We started small — walks to local storytelling events at the library and play dates, slowly graduating to road trips and finally, we took our first camping trip together as a family when he was about 10 months old. We went to one of our favorite rock hunting spots in upstate New York…
