Clapping For Dollars On The Internet — One Mom’s Story

How did I get here?

Before I was a prolific Medium writer, I had dreams and plans to be a famous comedian.

It was a mission I tapped away at for years. I spent thousands of hours on stage, writing jokes, touring and traveling.

Then I had a baby.

It’s not that the dream of being a comedian died, it’s just, well first of all, what a ridiculous, narcissistic and entitled dream.

I don’t know if you’re supposed to make fun of your own dreams. I think the people who make it really believe 100% in the racket behind their desires.

But that’s one of the things that inspired comedy as a vocation in my life to begin with.

I’m a thinker, I’m a complainer, I’m a ponderer. I easily spy the “wrong” in most things and to me, those little nuggets are easily churned into comedy.

“Finding and laughing at what’s wrong with life” could be my tagline.

And then I picked up a guitar and threw that into the mix somewhere along the way.

After the baby came, I admit, I was a broken women. I had to pick up the pieces, and I needed time and space to myself to do it.
