Corona Virus Social Distancing Diary: Day #13

We are settled in our new home away from home. Our dishes are where the dishes go, our clothes are where our clothes go, my son’s toys are sprinkled around the living room just so, the way they would be scattered about at our actual home.

We are missing New York City, none worse than my son, who still can’t really understand what is going on. After attempting to explain a few times (Well, you see, um, there’s a bad cold going around and everyone is getting sick, so we can’t go anywhere or see anyone because we don’t want to get sick) and seeing a glimmer of vague understanding shine in his sweet eyes, I decided I’d leave it to the pros and I showed him a video about why we couldn’t go back to our home in New York City for awhile, and why he can’t go to school or see his friends. But between you and me, the thing he misses the most of all is the Manhattan Bridge. It’s his daily backdrop, and every morning when we go for our walk, our scoot or to the playground, he greets it just like its a good friend. “Hi Manhattan Bridge!”, he yells over the din of traffic and the white noise of our neighborhood, and then he watches awestruck for a moment, but is especially taken if a train happens to be cruising across it.
