My Semi-Annual Public Postpartum Check-In

Oh, hello. You may have known me for a long time or this may be the first time you and I have ever had any sort of encounter. Either way, I’d like to fill you in on what’s been going down in my still somewhat new life as a mom.

I admit, I get a sort of mini-thrill out of sharing personal details with the public. It’s why I started performing as a stand-up comedian in 2000-ish and why I still keep this here…what is this thing, a blog? A small business? I don’t know.

I’m happy to report that three years later, I’m still enjoying being a mom. Also, my marriage feels mostly sound and my business endeavors appear to be endeavoring.

I’m on a family trip as I write this, and the rest of my family is sleeping. I find a big trade-off for motherhood is that I have to find hidden pockets of time just for myself in a way that I didn’t have to do before.

If I want to go see this or go do that, I have to hire a sitter (or bribe, beg or badger a friend or family member to hang with my child). You’d think sitters are a dime a dozen and they are, but not necessarily good ones, and I’m not going to…
